I know this happens to everyone, but do you ever get up in the morning in a whirlwind wondering what to do first? I don’t always take my own advice but when I do, it makes a difference. Here’s what I do when I actually DO what I know works…
- Stop! Stop for 5 minutes and get two things – a bible and your journal and a pen (that takes one minute)
- Read 5 verses of Proverbs for whatever day it is. Today is the 16th so that means Proverbs 16:1-5
- Next with my pen (a fountain pen for me is so calming. I love fountain pens) anyway, with your pen and journal capture your whirlwind of thoughts – just write for a minute… whatever is hanging over your head. It might be like
wash hair
call 2 new leads (Renegade University)
fix cassarole to take
order flowers for sally’s dad’s funeral
spend 15″ on report before going to work – get focused for 15″
pray for sally
make vet appt for dog
This is not a to-do list. It’s to capture your thoughts for a minute or two – each time your focus is interrupted, go to this page today in your journal and right it down – later this morning while brushing your teeth, something else will come to your mind and stress you out a bit. Refuse that, just jot it down

must start walking today!
Whether you walk today or not isn’t the point. The point is “capture” your stressors. Next, last thing for the 5 minutes we’re spending to do this
- Pray for purpose-driven action. Pick one of the 5 verses in Proverbs and use that in your short prayer:
”Lord, I’m capturing my thoughts this morning and present them to you. Give me purpose-driven actions today like it says in Proverbs 16:3 ‘Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.’ So I trust You to make that happen! Amen.”

Lord give me diligence and honesty today so that I will increase in knowledge about my business and not be such a pushover to anything online that is shoddy and cheap. And Jesus, don’t let me produce anything that is shoddy and cheap either. Amen.
